拉曼大学华乐团第二届大型音乐演奏会:‘旋萦之夜’ -(2)

After the pipa solo performance, the next performance was a small group ensemble
on the song titled Miracle (奇迹) of which you probably have heard before
from the infamous Twleve Girls Band.

#7 Small Group Ensemble - Miracle

The next ensemble, we've performed two well-known Chinese Orchestra piece
entitled "Thunder in The Drought (旱天雷)" and "FengYang Flower Drum(凤阳花鼓)"
under the lead of  Mr. Set Yu Jian

#8 The second ensemble - conducted by Mr. Set Yu Jian

Our guzheng player, Mr. Liew Zhian Ming later 'wow' the audiences by performing
the guzheng concerto entitled The Eternal Sorrow of Lin'An (临安遗恨)

This piece was composed by He Zhan-Hao who other famous work
 include the Butterfly Lover Concerto.
The concerto also won the Prize of Composition at the
14th Shanghai Spring Music Festival in 1991.

The eternal sorrow of Lin'An was composed using the ancient tune
'The River all Red' as the basic musical material.

The music expresses the grief and indignation of Yue Fei in prison.
who is a great national hero and famous general.
He was put into prison in Lin'an (now known as Hangzhou)
and murdered there by the capitulationist officials
headed by Qin Gui who favoured surrender
because of his keeping up resistance against the invasion of the Nuzhens, a tribe from the north.

Apart from the above mentioned, we also seen a combination of the
western music instrument, the piano with the Chinese Guzheng in this performance.
The pianist accompanied our guzheng soloist was Mr. Soong Hoong Cheng
who is also one of the lecturer from UTAR.
