Last year, we held our first concert in June and it's of great success.

This year, lucky enough, we were still able to carry on with our second concert themed
"旋萦之夜"
which means
Embraces by the beautiful melodies of the night

From night practices at the cafeteria(i would say feeding the mosquitoes) to the stage,
we really do put in a lot of time and dedication to this concert.

With great honor, the concert was opened by Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon

#1 The opening ceremony

After the opening ceremony, we are all ready to perform!

The first song we've performed was known as The Bolivian Dance(玻璃维亚舞曲)
This lively music is dance in the rhythm with movements that will make you smile.
It describe the Bolivian's Dances as they are happy and colourful.

The second song was Dum Dum (达姆.达姆)
which is also known as Koum Tara Algerian Folk Song
As the name implies, originally from the Africa's folk song, the first part of this music is played
an octave higher on a chinese flute that resembles the piccolo.

#2 The first ensemble : Bolivian Dance and Dum Dum
Conductor : Mr. Ryan Choon

Henceforth, the Liuqin Solo by Ms. Teoh Ming Hui.

The song performed was Winter Hunting (冬猎)
which is a piece written in the 70s
Winter Hunting is one of the movements from the Liuqin Concerto
'Sketches of Life in Northern China' by Liu Xijin
comprising the four movements
Horse Racing (赛马), Reindeer(驯鹿), Fisherman's Song (渔歌) and Winter Hunting (冬猎)

It describe the excitement on a hunting trip
from tracking the prey to chasing the prey
and finally the pure pleasure of the hunter on returning from a successful trip

#3 Liuqin solo - Winter Hunting by Ms. Teoh Ming Hui

Next up is the Dizi Duet accompanied with percussion by our 10 members.

The song played was August Osmanthus Blossom (八月桂花遍地开)
Osmanthus is one of the plants of Hangzhou, China which blossom sweetly
each year around mid-autumn. This piece describe the stunningly beautiful
view of the Osmanthus blossom with a feeling of fulfillment and deep joy.

Next up is the Erhu Unison by our 7 gentleman's.

Together, they brought us back to the good old days
by playing the piece titled 'American Oldies Capriccio(美国往事随想曲)'

Composed by well-known erhu master, Zhou Wei who wrote it on commitment to
the visit of President George H.W. Bush to China in 2005.
The piece compiled memorable songs from the olden days
such as
Top of the World, Yesterday, Memory, Do Re Mi and Oh Susana

After the erhu performance, Mr. Ryan Choon
enlightened the audiences
on a pipa solo piece titled 'Spring of The Tian Shan Mountain (天山之春)'

This piece was composed by the renowned pipa master Wang Fandi based on one of the famous
pieces of Xinjiang Uyghur folk music for dance. Accompanied our pipa soloist, Mr. Ryan Choon was
percussionist Mr. Ho Jing Yeat on the hand drum.
